Top 7 Best Restaurants in Sunchang
Today, I will be recommending restaurants in Sunchang, Jeonbuk. I have compiled a comprehensive list of famous spots with high visitor numbers and excellent reviews.
1. Okcheongol Hanjeongsik
This is a Korean set meal restaurant housed in a Hanok-style building, serving grilled beef and pork bulgogi cooked on a charcoal grill! There was space to park a few cars right in front of the restaurant, so we parked there. You must remove your shoes before entering. The restaurant consists of multiple private rooms and a spacious hall, so we were seated in a multi-person room. We ordered the beef bulgogi set for two, and shortly after, the table was filled with 20 side dishes, including cheonggukjang. Since we ordered the beef bulgogi, we were given about a serving of pork bulgogi as a complimentary service. The smoky aroma from the meat was intoxicating from the moment it was served, and the gochujang-based pork bulgogi was actually tastier than the beef. Among them, the cheonggukjang felt like the main dish and the real kick. It was richer and spicier than even a restaurant specializing in cheonggukjang, so I devoured it, feeling like I was having a full cheonggukjang set meal. With boiled octopus and grilled yellow croaker included, and the side dishes served so generously, it was a shame we couldn't finish everything and had to leave some behind.

2. Stone Wall House
Headed to Sunchang Doldamjip for clear freshwater snail soup after a long time. I waited about 30 minutes, but the taste was worth it. I happily finished a whole bowl in no time. Even though I didn't drink, it really soothed my hangover. I stopped by while visiting Sunchang, and I love that they give you hand-pulled noodles when you order the soup. The broth is refreshing and delicious. The soup has a clear and clean taste, and as for the hand-pulled noodles, well, if you like flour, of course you have to go for it. It is a place that makes you want to visit again after trying it. Perhaps because they were busy, there were some unfriendly moments, but the food is tasty. It would be even better if they were friendlier.

3. Sunjeong Livestock Cooperative Sunchang Hanwoo Premium Hall
This is my second visit since the Sunjeong Livestock Cooperative opened in Sunchang! Since it was Sunday, raw meat was unavailable, so I ordered Yukhoe instead. The Yukhoe was delicious as well. I liked that I could enjoy various cuts by ordering a set menu. The foreign staff member who served us was so kind; even though they were busy, they always greeted us with a smile, which I appreciate and really lifted my spirits! I highly recommend that staff member! I was craving Bulnak Jeongol for the first time in a while, so I visited for the first time even though it has been open for a while. The portions are generous and it is delicious. The Yukhoe Bibimbap is also tasty. We arrived just before 5 PM, and although we were the only customers, they welcomed us kindly. I enjoyed the meal so much that I plan to come back for a family meal next time. The Galbitang and Bibimbap are delicious. It is spacious and nice, with both a main dining area and private rooms.

4. Guryong Garden
I went at 1:40 PM on a weekend, and there were 8 groups waiting for about 30 minutes. I ordered a half portion of roasted duck (half portions are not available for groups of 3 or more). Basic scallion salad and ssamjang were set out, and they served the meat first. After grilling for about 5 minutes, they brought out the vegetables and side dishes. Since that is a half portion of roasted duck, the quantity is generous. It is good with no gamey smell. I saw reviews saying the staff were unfriendly, but it seems only one or two people are like that. I was about to ask something briefly on their way to fry the rice, but they just told me to talk to them later and left. While eating, a stone the size of a grain of rice came out! I almost broke my tooth, but they just said, "Sorry, do you want anything more?" So how could I ask for anything? Haha. It seems like they give complimentary rice with the duck soup, but they didn't give us any even when we ordered a bowl of rice.

5. Maeil Tongdak
I am someone who travels around Gwangju and the Jeonnam region seeking out the best fried chicken spots, even if I am not a nationwide foodie. So far, I have tried all the places considered famous in Gwangju, Hwasun, Sunchang, Gangjin, Damyang, etc., and in my opinion, this place is the best! The seasoning here isn't too strong, so it has a clean rather than salty taste that suited my palate well. The batter is also moderately crispy and savory. Also, it can start to feel a bit greasy as you eat, but eating the pickled radish at that moment is heavenly. The pickled radish tastes homemade, so it isn't too sweet and sour, and it has the perfect flavor to cut through the greasiness. The price is 25,000 won per box, and the quantity is enough to fill up three people. The chicken breast shreds along the grain, making it really chewy and delicious with no gamey smell. We ate it as a pair and were so full that we ate the leftovers the next day, and it was still delicious even when cold. Make sure to call ahead to order before you leave. It takes two hours, but ordering right before we left was perfect. It is seriously so tender. This is truly the first time I've had market-style fried chicken this delicious. However, my husband said he didn't like it, so the texture might be hit or miss for some. But seriously, he kept saying how delicious it was the whole time we were eating it.

6. Pork Cutlet Class
A delicious pork cutlet restaurant I found in Sunchang! I dipped the cutlets in the salt provided on the table and could confirm that they were made with high-quality meat. The soybean paste soup was especially tasty, ensuring a hearty meal for the kids. The portions are generous, and the taste is consistently great every time. It is a great restaurant for pork cutlets and pizza to visit on special occasions. At Donkatsu Class, we create our premium handmade pork cutlets using only carefully selected, top-grade fresh black pork raised on the high plateau of Mt. Jirisan at an altitude of 500m.

7. Sunchang Jin Jjamppong
I visited Sunchang Jin Jjamppong because an acquaintance recommended it. Perhaps because it is located in front of an apartment complex, many families visit. We ordered Gan Jjajang. It took quite a while to come out. The smoky aroma was decent. However, whether it was pork fat or something else, they used excessive oil, causing my stomach to feel greasy and uncomfortable. There was oil in the sauce and even in the bowl after mixing... easily enough to fill a spoonful. It was so dry that I just picked out the noodles a few times and left a lot behind. Is this a local favorite restaurant? Gan-jjajang and extra-large jjajangmyeon for a lunch date with my husband. The Jin Jjamppong has a lot of portions; as expected, it was generous and the food was delicious! I liked that the side dishes were served neatly. I came avoiding the busy lunch hour, so I ate everything. Jincheol is the best. I visited to have a meal with my parents. The food came out quickly. The sweet and sour pork and jjajangmyeon are tasty.
